The light of the world is jesus!
The Light and Life Hour...
While it may seem odd to bring up an old fashion radio program from the early days (especially in light of the virtual world we live in), I cannot help but reflect on the message and work it did to amplify the Light of Christ across the airwaves. I also wonder if you or someone you know may remember the voices of folks like Dr. Leroy Lowell, Myron F. Boyd, or even McPherson resident and Central Grad Bob Andrews (CC ’46), who all hosted the old FMC radio show, The Light and Life Hour? The Light and Life Radio Hour was a weekly radio program that ran from 1944 to 1980, and featured special messages, hymns, prayers, and Scripture readings. Traditionally, the show began with a song entitled, “The Light of the World is Jesus,” and if there was ever a time we could use regular reminding of that truth, it would be now. As we look at our current top news stories they outline a world at war, uncertainty in the economy, ongoing social worries, health concerns, and an eroding morality to name a few. These stories paint a bleak portrait of a society lost and adrift on the dark seas of chaos and confusion. I am reminded of those words from The Light and Life Hour's theme song that decry, “The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin.” How does that impact us, this place, our community? Simply put, we see it in our students. Many of them come to us disenchanted, disillusioned, and are disappointed in a world that seems to have cast them aside in pursuit of its own self-interest. They come asking questions – and of course we have THE ANSWER… “The Light of the world is Jesus!” And that is the gospel we teach and preach! In this way, Central Christian is like a lighthouse that projects the light of Christ out upon the darkened seas. For our light is Christ - who shines bright and true! We rejoice in those moments – whether it be a chapel, classroom, or residence hall--when the piercing light of Christ penetrates the darkened soul, igniting new life and the hope eternal, “Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in” As a partner in ministry, you help ensure that this message is never silenced. Your spiritual and monetary support today helps safeguard our role as the light-keepers. And though the airwaves may be silent – let us ensure that the legacy of Orleans Seminary, Wessington Springs, and Central Christian College burns brightly – relaying to all what that old radio song proclaimed, “The Light of the world is Jesus!” |
