Perhaps it is wrong of me to admit...
As an adult survivor of ADHD, there are moments that I am simply compelled to break away from the monotony of the administraivia that often defines my role as President. I am sorry if that diminishes your view of me, but sometimes I just need to get the wiggles out!!! Which is how I found myself watching a basketball practice, rather than completing a very compelling budget analysis. Standing off to the side, I was inspired as I watched these students, representing a number of different racial, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, working together to accomplish the task set before them. I watched as the coaching staff encouraged the players, modeling the Christ-like character we seek to emulate here at Central. I reflected on the fact that each of these students, because of their enrollment at CCCK, now have the opportunity to sit in classes, attend chapels, participate in convocations, and interact at campus gatherings. It was in that moment that the Spirit of God once again impressed upon me the immense value of what we do here, reminding me that this Christ-Centered Education for Character really does work – and it really does matter. Because unlike many other students, attending colleges that have ignored, downplayed, or even have devalued the message of Christ, these students will have a chance to hear about God, experience His transformative power, and see Christ-likeness modeled in the lives of those who work here. Of course, such an experience is not limited to athletic participation. Whether it be through the arts, athletics, or academics – the opportunity remains the same. These students have the advantage of being able to learn from a Christ-Centered perspective and have the privilege of being challenged to discover their God-Given potential. What we do here matters. It really does matter. To state it very succinctly – There is tremendous value in providing a Christ-Centered Education for Character. But there is also a cost. While we continue to do everything we can to keep costs down and be good stewards of the resources given to us, many of our students still struggle to raise the funds needed to pay for College. For some that means forgoing an education with CCCK. For others it means the accrual of significant loans or dropping out before the completion of their educational endeavors. This is unfortunate – in that it prohibits some from experiencing the value of what we provide. But it does not need to be that way. It is my conviction that God has uniquely positioned you to help address this issue. This is our mission, and it matters. That means your investment into the mission also matters. I invite you to invest today. Every gift, your gift, empowers us to stay focused on what matters. Thank you for making a difference! Because It Matters, Leonard Favara Jr. (Lenny)
