About Rev. Dr. Kristina LaCelle-Peterson

Kristina LaCelle-Peterson (PhD, Drew University) is an associate professor of religion at Houghton College, an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church, and the author of the book, Liberating Tradition: Women’s Identity and Vocation in Christian Perspective (Baker Academic). Her current research focuses on early nineteenth-century Christians who believed that a fervent devotion to Jesus would result in a deep concern for others. One aspect of this study is Laura Smith Haviland whose life epitomized this integration as she ran a school, served on the Underground Railroad, worked as a nurse during the Civil War, planted churches and started schools among freed slaves before the Civil War.
